Brooke Peñaloza-Patzak
Brooke Peñaloza-Patzak centra-se na produção e naturalização, entre o final do século XVIII e o início do século XX, de hierarquias euronormativas das diferenças entre humanos e mais-que-humanos; no trabalho prático e epistémico envolvido em convocar coisas físicas — desde organismos vivos e outrora vivos até objectos de cultura — como provas dessas hierarquias; e nas circunstâncias sociais e económicas que sustentam estas formas de conhecer e produzir conhecimento.
Detentora de uma bolsa Erwin Schrödinger da Austrian Science Fund e de uma bolsa Marie Jahoda, o seu primeiro manuscrito de livro, intitulado With Objects at Hand: The Rise and Fall of the Natural Science of Human Culture (Com Objectos à Mão: A Ascensão e Queda da Ciência Natural da Cultura Humana), encontra-se actualmente em avaliação. Encontra-se também a finalizar a co-edição de um número especial para a revista History of Science, intitulado “Making Science of Things: Collections and Knowledge Creation in and Between the Natural and Human Sciences” (Fazer Ciência das Coisas: Colecções e Criação de Conhecimento nas e entre as Ciências Naturais e Humanas).
Brooke Peñaloza-Patzak’s work centers on the late eighteenth to early twentieth century production and naturalization of Euronormative hierarchies of human and more-than-human difference; the practical and epistemic labor involved in invoking physical things—from living and once living organisms to objects of culture—as evidence of those hierarchies; and the social and economic circumstances that undergird these ways of knowing and making knowledge. A recipient of the Austrian Science Funds Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship and Marie Jahoda Fellowship, her first book manuscript, entitled With Objects at Hand: The Rise and Fall of the Natural Science of Human Culture, is currently under review, and she is also in the process of f inishing up a co-edited special issue for History of Science entitled “Making Science of Things: Collections and Knowledge Creation in and Between the Natural and Human Sciences.
